Default Hw 5 Q2

Hyperbolic function graph has following form x^2 - y^2 = 1. Constant could be any the form will be same. Does not this mean that since X1 and X2 are strictly positive(squares) that W1 corresponding to x1 should be >0 and W2 corresponding to to x2 should be <0. The correct answer shows the opposite. Please help,
