Arrow Note about Weeks 3 and 4

The coming two weeks (Lectures 5-8; HW 3,4) are the most theoretical of the course. For some of you, this will be the part you are waiting for. For others, this will be the part you are dreading. Here is what I ask you to do.

Please make an effort to understand the basic logic and concepts that the theory presents, whether you get 100% of the math, or 10% of the math. If you are on the 10% side, the homework will not be easy. Please try your best and don't lose heart. Get what you can out of these two weeks, and don't let perfect be the enemy of good.

The rest of the course focuses on techniques and conceptual analysis. Having the theory in the background makes these techniques and concepts more crisp and solid, and less arbitrary.

Enjoy the learning experience!
