Default HW2- Question 8

Hello all:
In this question we must aproximate a ellipse with a straight-line?
Seems that we construct the target function as a ellipse, but the question says we must make linear regression whitout the transformation.
I'm little confused with this... Can someone explain to me?
Thank you very much.
Isidro

Yes, this is to contrast with the next problem where you use a nonlinear surface.

I am sorry to be unable to resist observing that this question is a great example of trying to fit a square peg to a round hole.
