Exercise 1.3 (b)

If my thinking is correct:

,shouldn't we have the inequality of type less than or equal to than less than only (otherwise we lose x(t)=null vector)?

By convention, the vector $\bf x$ includes the zeroth coordinate

which is fixed at

, hence the norm of $\bf x$ cannot be zero.
