On page 20, we read:


tells us is the error rate h makes in approximating f. If v happens to be close
to zero, we can predict that h will approximate f well over the entire input
space. If not, we are out of luck.
I think it is v not at the first occurrence.

Thank you. We do mean \mu in the first occurrence. \mu is the "true" difference between h and f, and \nu is our "observed" difference.

Yes you are right, the \mu is the true difference, but \mu is unknown then I think it can't say something to us, because we don't have it. We just have \nu which tells something to us about \mu. Maybe using "\mu is ...." instead of "tells us" is better.
